Queer Love: Naudia and Serena

[ad_1]

WELCOME TO QUEER LOVE!

A monthly feature interviewing Queer couples from all across the globe. Each month a brand new couple will be revealed to Unite’s audience – Next month, this could be you! Please get in touch with the email provided at the bottom of this article, if you wish to take part next time!

This month we’re introducing you to Naudia and Serena!

UUK: We start off every interview with the same question, so let’s  take it back to the very beginning of your relationship! How did the two of you first meet one another?

N+S: We met at a bar in London in 2017. It was funny because we didn’t actually speak to each other. Serena was leaving the bar and left me her number! I text her the next day and we made plans for our first date!

UUK: Oooh that’s a little bit mysterious! I’m sure many members of our audience would LOVE that to happen to them – maybe one day!

So; what was next for you two? When was it when you realised that you had actual feelings for one another?

N+S: We both realised we had feelings at different moments. I went to visit Serena twice in the summer of 2017. I first visited in June for two weeks and Serena showed me around Milan!

When I flew back to London, Serena said she realised she had fallen for me!

For me it was the second time I visited Italy in August. We spent an entire month together just travelling around Italy. When we were in Florence I realised I had feelings for Serena. When we went back to Milan, it was the first time we said I love you to each other.

UUK: It’s so amazing to hear of how you fell in love in all of these different countries! Honestly it all sounds very dreamy. I suppose travelling to all the various destinations and cultures can invite a lot of new eyes upon your relationship.

Have you ever experienced any unwanted attention or straight up homophobia whilst on your travels?

N+S: unfortunately, we have experienced homophobia a few times when travelling around Italy. How we handle it depends on the situation. For example, we were once with a photographer in Milan and were in a private area taking pictures when these men started harassing us. Because it was such a secluded area we immediately left since our safety is our priority.

In contrast, when we were in Positano, this man and his wife were at the beach and told us we were disgusting. Since it was a public place and we felt safe, we kept taking pictures and ignored them.

It’s always tough to know how to handle these situations but honestly, our priority is always our safety.

UUK: It’s heartbreaking to hear of the experiences you’ve had to deal with. Still, I guess one positive is that it sounds as if you’ve got your priorities right!

Always check in with how safe you feel in the situation!

I think all readers should definitely remind themselves of that if they ever experience a scenario like this too! But let’s discuss something a little more upbeat now! Do you have any exciting plans for the year ahead?  We’d love to follow your travelling adventures!

N+S: Aside from planning to move to a new country, we’ve been travelling to Mexico for the past two months and it’s been so inspiring! We are also planning some very exciting trips this year!

We actually never reveal where we’re going ahead of time because with COVID plans always change so you’re the first to know! If everything goes well, we will be going to Hawaii and New York! In the summer we have some tentative plans so stay tuned to find out where we will end up!

UUK: Hawaii and New York sound like incredible destinations! We all can’t wait to follow your upcoming travels – stay safe and have fun! Naudia and Serena, thank you SO much for being part of this feature – it’s been really great to find out more about yourselves!
