Queer Love: Whitney & Megan Bacon-Evans

This Month on Queer Love, we’re going to be following the journey of Whitney and Megan Bacon-Evans! This article aims to demonstrate our continued support towards Lesbian couple who are still working towards demolishing the ‘Gay Tax’ for all LGBT+ couples.  The two are continuing to reach new heights with their success as they discuss the unfair NHS fertility treatments towards families who identify as LGBT+.

All about the Fertility Equality Campaign

The married couple have launched their very own Fertility Equality Campaign in order to fight the discrimination against the LGBT+ community. Currently, it’s reported that same-sex couples and anyone single with a womb, will have to pay for 12 sessions of IVF treatment in order to provide the evidence that they are infertile. It’s estimated that this shall cost around £30,000 – £50,000 and has to be undergone before seeking any support from the NHS.

However if you happen to be in a cisgendered and heterosexual relationship, you will only be require to try to conceive through unprotected sex for two years before receiving support. Megan and Whitney believe that they are being penalised financially simply because of their sexuality and describe the penalty as a ‘Gay Tax‘.

Gay Tax refers to the unequal access to fertility treatments

Whitney and Megan have been together for over 13 years and only a few years into their relationship, they knew that they wanted to have their very own children (as well as baby names!) It wasn’t until the beginning of 2020 when they we’re ready to discuss babies seriously and this is when they uncovered just how much of a financial burden conceiving children can be, when you’re LGBT+.

I started doing it for themselves and when they realised that so many of their followers were also struggling they’ve really wanted to help them. they want the rules hanged for everyone and see the impact
