Mpox still spreading in Europe

Mpox is still – slowly – spreading in Europe.

Cases were reported in the UK a little over two years ago and a newer strain appeared earlier this year.  11 cases have been reported of the new strain so far (“clade 1b”).

It has also now been reported in France, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany and Sweden. There have been cases in the USA, though the current chaos of public health planning there makes it less likely there will be reliable information pertinent to this year.

Cases have been reported in the UK and in April, while the last German, French and Belgian cases were in February.

Sewden’s last known case was last summer.

Vaccinations are available in parts of the UK and the advice we gave two years ago still applies if you might be exposed.
