Bi Gossip – November 2024
We mostly cover the “big stuff” in BCN – like bi events, changes to law that particularly affect bi people, new research and so forth.
But a lot of bi news is not “real news” but gossip or social media comments from people in the public eye. Those don’t change laws but they do, albeit not as often as we might like, change hearts and minds. Or give us public statements we can really relate to and that help educate others.
The biggest bisexual headline of the month wasn’t a bi story at all. TV presenter Jeremy Vine couldn’t find the right word in a sentence and so accidentally declared himself to be “bisexual” while clearly not meaning it. The Independent was among many websites getting in a froth about this silly story. He meant ambidextrous – the ability to do things like writing about as easily with your left hand as with your right. In a slim defence of his confusion, a lot of us have used the pun ambisextrous in wordplay over the years.
And somewhat less in the public eye, OutSports talked to a bisexual golfer. “I was riding in a van this September on my way to practice with my Columbia University golf team when I interrupted our casual conversation. “Guys, there’s something I wanted to tell you. I’m bisexual,” I said.” writes Grant Lester. It’s a lovely story of acceptance but also of the fears we have – even if we have openly gay or lesbian family members.
Denzel Washington talked to Gayety about his role in the new Gladiator 2 film. He explains that while there’s plenty of bisexual energy in his role in the film, originall there was a same-sex kiss between him and another man filmed – but that never made it into the final cut.
“I kissed the man in the film, but they took it,” Washington revealed, leaving us shocked—and, let’s be real, a bit disappointed. First, we heard about the cut forehead kiss between Pedro Pascal and Paul Mescal, and now this? Washington’s take? “I guess they’re not ready for that.” Well, we definitely are!
The actor added with a laugh, “I killed him about 5 minutes later.”
Well. It is Gladiator.
